[CLOSED] bleu clair – Hidden Café & Bar in Central Kumamoto Famous for Curry and Cheesecake

Outing Spots

Discovering bleu clair

Hello travelers! It’s Gussan, writer for [Sarukuma], here to share another local Kumamoto gem with you.

Today I’m introducing bleu clair, a charming little spot tucked away in Konya-imamachi, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City.
【bleu clair】

bleu clair is a cozy café & bar that you’ll find by walking down Shower Street (Shawā-dōri) and passing through the tunnel under the elevated railway. There’s no dedicated parking, but plenty of coin-operated parking lots are available nearby — perfect for travelers exploring downtown Kumamoto by car. Here’s the exterior of bleu clair.
Look for the distinctive blue roof — that’s your landmark.
At first glance you might wonder if it’s open, but if you see the sign and chair set out at the entrance, it means they’re ready to welcome you in.
As a busy parent, I rarely make it out during bar hours, but this place is famous for its curry and cheesecake — making it the perfect hidden gem to visit during lunchtime or afternoon tea.
Inside bleu clair, you’ll find 4 counter seats,
plus a table seating area.
Since there’s only one table, I’d recommend reserving in advance by phone or via Instagram DM to be safe. Here’s the bleu clair menu.

You can add a drink to your curry or cake order for just +200 yen,
and the deal includes not only coffee and soft drinks but also their café latte and cocoa
(normally 550 yen) — yours for only 200 yen as a set!

Now that’s an amazing deal!
Even if I’m in the mood for oolong tea, the thrifty side of me kicks in and I end up choosing the café latte! (laughs)

Must-Try Menu Items at bleu clair

This time we ordered the Signature Spiced Butter Chicken Curry, the Roast Beef Rice Bowl, and a refreshing Lemonade.
First up, bleu clair’s signature dish:
Signature Spiced Butter Chicken Curry — ¥1,100 (excl. tax)
Wow, it’s pretty spicy!
There’s a lovely heat balanced by the rich, mellow butter flavor — totally addictive.
The chicken, slow-simmered in the spicy curry, was beautifully tender — practically melting in your mouth.
It also comes with salad and a boiled egg, so it fills you up more than it looks.
Next up: Roast Beef Rice Bowl — ¥1,200 (excl. tax)
It’s loaded with fresh veggies like baby leaves and cherry tomatoes.
But what you see isn’t all there is!
Lift up that top layer of roast beef and… surprise — there’s even more roast beef hiding underneath!
What a delightful bonus.

And to finish: Lemonade — ¥450 (excl. tax).
It looks as cool and refreshing as it tastes — the perfect palate cleanser!
Fun tip: if you order the lemonade for takeout, they’ll serve it in an adorable apple-shaped bottle ♪

Next time, I definitely want to try the cheesecake ♡ Be sure to add bleu clair to your Kumamoto travel itinerary!
