📌 What you’ll learn in this article
A Sarukuma writer visits Akitsu Hanatate Park in person and shares the full scoop. We cover family-friendly highlights, access, and opening hours.

Hello there! I’m Ayu-mama, a writer for “Sarukuma”!
Today I’d like to introduce you to a great little spot in Hanatate, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City:
Akitsu Hanatate Park!

It’s a small park, but it’s packed with everything kids love to play on!
There are two slides,
plus a sandbox — something that’s become surprisingly rare these days.
A drinking fountain is on hand too.
The restroom is on the small side, but it’s there, along with benches for resting.
The swings look like they were recently replaced — they’re sparkling clean!
There’s a wide open space, perfect for riding bikes or playing ball games! There’s plenty of shade too, so even the hot summer days feel cooler here!
You’ll also find several large ginkgo trees,
which turn into a beautiful highlight when their autumn leaves come into season!

Why We Recommend It

The biggest selling point has to be the location! The park sits just behind the Daiso intersection in Hanatate,
and within walking distance you’ll find Daiso (100-yen shop), Big (supermarket), Sunny (supermarket),
Nishimatsuya (kids’ clothing), and Cosmos (drugstore). It’s the perfect park to drop by while running errands!

While Mom is shopping, Dad and the kids can play here and wait!
In our family, picking up some toys at Daiso and then heading to the park has become a regular routine!

On this day, we picked up some bubbles and had a great time blowing them around!
Forgot something? Just pop into Daiso.
Need an emergency change of clothes? Nishimatsuya is right there.
Hungry? Grab a bento box from the supermarket.
You can honestly show up empty-handed and have a wonderful day!
The Hakata ramen shop “Ushijima” we featured last time is also nearby,
so why not enjoy a tasty bowl of ramen, then play at the park before heading home? Highly recommended!
