2020.10.11

A SaruKuma writer’s firsthand report on Techno Chuo Ryokuchi Park, located in Tahara, Mashiki Town, Kamimashiki District. We’ve covered family-friendly highlights, access information, and opening hours.
Hello, fellow travelers!
This is Rikotama, your SaruKuma writer!
Today, I’m excited to introduce you to a wonderful hidden gem in Kumamoto Prefecture, located in Tahara, Mashiki Town, Kamimashiki District β Techno Chuo Ryokuchi Park (Techno Central Green Park).

The park is conveniently located right next to the Aso Kumamoto Airport Hotel Eminence! Perfect if you’re flying into Kumamoto Airport and want a quick nature break.

Good news for drivers β there are five parking lots surrounding the park, so finding a spot is never a hassle!

You’ll also find vending machines on-site for grabbing a quick drink β a true Japanese park essential!

Restrooms are available in two locations: near the playground area and at the Fountain Plaza (Izumi no Hiroba).

The kids’ restrooms are absolutely adorable β a charming little detail that families will appreciate!

There’s also a multi-purpose restroom equipped with a diaper-changing area β perfect for traveling parents with little ones!

Around the park, you’ll spot Japanese-style pavilions (azumaya) for taking breaks in the shade.

You’ll also find several covered benches scattered throughout β ideal for a quiet rest, even on rainy days!

Get ready for a surprise β the park even features a temple-like structure! And at this spot (the Waterfall Plaza, or Taki no Hiroba), something magical happens at certain times of the day…

A surprisingly powerful curtain of water comes pouring down!
It’s called the “Water Curtain” β pretty cool, right? (β§β½β¦)
The Water Curtain runs four times a day, for 30 minutes each:
11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM, and 5:00 PM.

My son and the local doggies were absolutely thrilled by the spectacle! π΅
β» Please note: do NOT enter the water curtain area for safety reasons.

There’s also a great selection of playground equipment!
You’ll find an impressive combination playset featuring five different slides, plus…

…this curiously shaped slide-like contraption (*^β½^*)

And honestly? Some of the equipment is so unique I couldn’t even tell what to call it! (laugh)

This one looks like… monkey bars, maybe?
Even though I wasn’t sure how to use everything, the variety of fun and unusual equipment was fantastic (β§β½β¦)

Here’s a special bonus for aviation fans: because the park is close to Takayubaru Sub-Base, you can frequently spot Japan Self-Defense Force helicopters flying overhead!
On the day I visited, I counted around five helicopters!
And finally, my favorite recommendation π
The ginkgo tree-lined avenue is absolutely stunning! β
Around November is the best time to see the golden foliage at its peak (*^β½^*)
