Today, I’m thrilled to introduce a hidden gem located in Kenkun, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City:
【Ichomachata Park】.
This is a small neighborhood park nestled in a quiet residential area,
beloved by the local community.
You’ll find the park just a short walk from Kenkun TSUTAYA, a popular local bookstore.

Note that there are no vending machines inside the park,
so if you need a drink, we recommend grabbing one from the vending machine at Kenkun TSUTAYA
or picking up a takeaway treat from Kumamoto Milk Tea located inside the store.

Inside the park, you’ll find classic playground favorites: a slide and a seesaw,
plus a swing set.
There’s even an adorably retro, colorful train-shaped play structure!
And these three curious bowl-shaped play structures lined up in a row.

Take a peek from the other side…
…and there are holes!
Maybe kids pop their faces through here?
This would be perfect for a game of hide-and-seek!

There’s also a drinking fountain on site,

and restrooms are available too — a real plus for families!

And there are plenty of benches scattered throughout the park.

What Makes This Park Special

The real highlight? This gorgeous lawn!
Just look at this stunning emerald green!
It rivals a professional golf course!
The lawn is impeccably maintained.
Most small neighborhood parks in Japan typically have sandy or dirt ground,
but this one boasts beautifully cared-for grass!
Even the wobbliest, just-learning-to-walk toddlers
can roam freely and confidently here!
If they tumble, the soft grass cushions every fall!

It may be small, but it’s a real hidden gem!
