About the Park
Hello there!
I’m Ayu Mama, a writer for “Sarukuma.”

Today I’d like to introduce you to a wonderful local spot in Rendaiji, Nishi Ward, Kumamoto City:
Rendaiji Park (蓮台寺公園).
Tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood, the park is easy to find thanks to small signposts pointing the way.
It’s a spacious park split into two areas: a sports ground and a playground section.
Highlights & Recommended Features
The restroom on the sports ground side has a vending machine right next to it — perfect for grabbing a cold drink on a hot day.
You’ll also find Western-style toilets available here, which is a nice convenience for international visitors.
The sports ground is set up for baseball, with beautifully maintained grass that’s a treat to look at.
The playground side has restrooms too, with a handy water fountain right out front — perfect for rinsing off little hands or quenching your thirst.
There’s a traditional Japanese-style pavilion (azumaya) for shade…
…and plenty of benches scattered around for resting your legs.

There’s a multi-feature combination playground that kids love.

There are swings, too!
The playground side also has an open grassy area where kids can play with balls and run around freely.
Here’s the real treat: railway tracks run nearby, so if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a passing train — or even the famous Shinkansen bullet train zooming by!
For little ones who love trains and vehicles, this is a delightful surprise that turns a trip to the park into an unforgettable adventure!
If you’re in the area, it’s well worth a visit.
