Welcome to Kashima Neighborhood Park
Hello, travelers! It’s Maru, your SaruKuma writer πΌ
Today I’m taking you to a hidden local gem in Kashima Town, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Kashima Neighborhood Park” (Kashima Kinrin KΕen).

A commemorative monument greets you as you arrive.
The park sits conveniently close to Crea Mall, a popular local shopping spot. While the playground equipment is modest, the wide-open lawns and a charming little hill make it a perfect place to take a relaxing break during your Kumamoto adventures.

There’s a parking area along the main road, and a smaller lot on the opposite side of the stairs.

The park is generally well-maintained and clean, but please watch your step β some tiles near the entrance staircase are chipped, and a section of glass on the restroom’s exterior wall is cracked.

Here’s the public restroom.
The inside was nice and tidy β always a relief when you’re out exploring with the family!

You’ll find well-paved walking paths perfect for a leisurely stroll, with a small waterway running alongside (it was dry on the day I visited).

This is the covered rest area β great for shade on sunny days or shelter during a sudden shower.

Stone benches sit invitingly under the shade of a beautiful symbolic tree β a peaceful spot to rest your feet βͺ
Highlights of Kashima Neighborhood Park
For playground equipment, you’ll find swings…
…and this fun slide.
There’s also a wooden slide. Just outside the park, you can spot a vending machine β handy for grabbing a cold drink!
The sandbox features a single spring-mounted ride toy.

But the real star of the park isn’t the playground β it’s this lush, grass-covered hill!
It’s hard to tell from the photos, but it’s surprisingly tall!

Here’s the view from the top of the little hill. You can see the whole area β so refreshing! π You can really get a sense of how spacious the grounds are from up here.

There’s plenty of space to run around and play to your heart’s content.
On the day I visited, kids from a nearby kindergarten were practicing for their sports day, filling the park with cheerful music and happy laughter βͺ
