About Shimizu Children’s Park

Hello, this is Kanao, a writer for [Sarukuma] 🌼

Today I’m introducing a park located in Shimizu-machi, Yatsushiro City
[Shimizu Children’s Park].

Shimizu Children’s Park is tucked just off the main road.
Since it’s not facing the main street, there’s very little traffic and the atmosphere is wonderfully quiet.
On the day we visited, two other families were enjoying the park alongside us, so I imagine it’s a beloved spot for local residents 😊

The grounds are very spacious, with a nice variety of play equipment.
Note: There is no dedicated parking lot for Shimizu Children’s Park.

The restrooms are located in the center of the park.
They’re on the smaller side but include men’s, women’s, and a multi-purpose restroom.
The multi-purpose restroom even has a baby changing table β€” a real plus for traveling families.

Right next to the restrooms, you’ll find a hand-washing station.
It’s even built with a step so little ones can easily reach the water β€” such a thoughtful touch!

There’s also a vending machine right by the restrooms πŸ‘πŸ»
Having a vending machine on-site is reassuring in case you forget to bring drinks for the kids.
With Japan’s hot, humid summers approaching, staying hydrated is a must πŸ₯€

In the center of the park, there’s a rest area with benches.
At first glance I thought it had a roof β€” but it’s actually a natural canopy formed by climbing vines!
There are some gaps, so a bit of sunlight does peek through.

Here’s a look at the open area without play equipment ↑

It’s a wonderfully wide-open space.
With no equipment in the way, it’s perfect for tag, running games, soccer, and all kinds of free play.

Highlights of Shimizu Children’s Park

Ta-da! Just look at this β€” how cool is that?!
We spotted an awesome airplane-shaped play structure!
This one is geared toward older kids.
With open gaps in the platforms, it wasn’t quite suitable for my 1-year-old son just yet.

The back of the airplane doubles as a slide ✈️

This one is a combination play structure suitable even for 1-year-olds.
The railing-equipped stairs lead to a short slide at the top.
It may be short, but it’s surprisingly fast β€” my son was a little startled! πŸ˜‚

Just be careful around the back, where there are some open gaps in the platform.

Here are the swings.
There are two each of red and blue swings.
One pair is a bucket-style swing safe for 1-year-olds.
The swing area is fenced off, giving parents extra peace of mind.

Here’s what it looks like with my 1-year-old aboard ↑

His feet fit snugly inside, and he was super stable.
These kinds of swings make life so much easier for parents β€” much appreciated!

Beyond the playground equipment, there’s also a sandbox.
It’s on the smaller side, but just the right size for some sandy fun.

My son, who’s a huge Anpanman fan, skipped the sandbox entirely and spent the whole time drawing Anpanman characters in the dirt outside πŸ˜‚
