2024.05.24

A SaruKuma writer visited “Misato Country Park” in Misato Town, Shimomashiki District, and is here to report back. We’ve rounded up family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours all in one place.
Welcome to Misato Country Park
Hi everyone! This is Suno, writer for the SaruKuma travel team.
Today we’re heading to Misato Town in Shimomashiki District,
Misato Country Park.
Drive past Misato Town Hall, turn right, and follow the road up onto the hilltop β the sign for Misato Country Park will come into view in no time! βͺ
The free parking area is wide-open and a breeze to park in.
Tucked into a corner of the lot, you’ll find vending machines and separate Western-style restrooms for men and women.
The multipurpose restroom even has a diaper-changing table, so families traveling with babies can visit with peace of mind.
Head down the staircase toward the lawn area and a sweeping view like this opens up~
By the way, the area at the top of the stairs is a huge open space called “Wanpaku Hiroba” (Kids’ Plaza).
It’s a sea of green grass β perfect for badminton, frisbee, or just running around. You’ll often spot families enjoying a game here βͺ
Head down further and, on the opposite side of the playground area, you’ll find a covered rest pavilion.
There’s also a forest walking trail leading down the mountainside β but please make sure little ones don’t go down alone!
You can also head down from the restroom side of the parking lot.
This route gives you two options: a slightly steep staircase or a gentler sloped ramp β so if you’re traveling with a stroller, this is the side we recommend.
There’s also a hand-washing station and drinking fountain.
And the area under this tree? It’s a real treasure-hunting spot!
Kids absolutely love gathering acorns and pine cones here βͺ
There’s plenty of shade and benches dotted around too~
In summer, you can even catch insects here, and my son always goes wild for it!
What We Love About Misato Country Park
A small slide that’s just right for little ones.
Panda and lion spring riders.
And how exciting β there’s a Tarzan rope too~
And as for the swingsβ¦
Bucket-style baby swings! What a relief! These are pretty rare in southern Kumamoto, so finding one here feels like a real win.
Posted signs say these are intended for ages 1 to 3.
Don’t twist them!
Don’t ride them upside down!
Don’t wrap them around the top bar! Let’s all play by the rules βͺ
And here’s the surpriseβ¦
You can actually go grass skiing at Misato Country Park!
That’s why you’ll spot lots of families bringing along cardboard sheets or sleds for the slope.
There’s a big main playground structure too~
It was renovated recently, so it’s gorgeously clean and modern!
Once the kids start climbing on this thing, good luck getting them off β haha!
And being up on the hilltop, the views are absolutely stunning!
Surrounded by lush greenery and full of family fun β make sure Misato Country Park is on your Kumamoto travel list βͺ
