About the Shop
Hello, travelers!
I’m Kurumikko, a writer for Saru-Kuma.
Today I’m excited to introduce
“Mon-chan Manju”,
a charming little shop located in Kikutomi, Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
This shop just recently opened its doors!
You’ll find it directly across from the MaxValu Nagae Danchi supermarket, with the adorable “Mon-chan” mascot waving at you from the signboard (*’▽’*)

A convenient parking lot sits right out front.
Step inside and you’re greeted by a warm, woody, slightly nostalgic atmosphere.

This adorable penguin-like character with the irresistibly sweet expression is “Mon-chan” — the shop’s lovable mascot.
I went for takeout this time, but there’s also a cozy dine-in space inside if you’d like to enjoy your treat right away.

Recommended Menu
The menu features 8 varieties (300 yen each):
・Hamburger
・Okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake)
・Pineapple & White Bean Paste
・Spicy Mentaiko (seasoned cod roe)
・Kinpira & Cheese
・Corn & Sausage
・Tsubuan (chunky sweet red bean paste)
・Bacon & Egg
A lineup with both savory and sweet options that kids and adults alike will love.
This time, I went for the Kinpira & Cheese!

It’s Mon-chan! (*’∀’*)♡
The way he fits so snugly into his little paper bag is just too cute ✡

Look at that proud little face on Mon-chan!
He’s surprisingly hefty when you pick him up.
I’ve grown a bit attached, so this almost hurts my heart, but…
here goes — splitting Mon-chan in half!

Wow — packed full of generous kinpira (Japanese-style braised burdock root and carrot) ✧
The savory kinpira and melty cheese make a wonderful match (*´▽`*)
The dough is made with rice flour, giving it a wonderfully fluffy yet chewy mochi-like texture.
By the time I finished, I was completely smitten with Mon-chan 🤩
It’s perfect for a quick snack or afternoon treat,
and the eye-catching design also makes it a unique souvenir to bring home!
Thank you for the wonderful meal — gochisousama deshita!
