Bairinka: A French-Trained Pâtissier’s Cake Shop Using Kumamoto Ingredients in Minamiaso Village
2020.12.17

A Sarukuma writer’s firsthand visit to “Bairinka” in Ichinoseki, Minamiaso Village. Prices start from just ¥160. We’ve also covered family-friendly features, access, and opening hours.
Hello, fellow travelers!
I’m Sunny, a new writer for Sarukuma 🐩
I love introducing spots where you can bring both kids and dogs along.
Today I’d like to introduce a charming cake shop located in Ichinoseki, Minamiaso Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture:
《Bairinka》(pronounced “bai-rin-ka”).

At first glance, you might not even guess this is a cake shop — it has a peaceful, traditional Japanese-style farmhouse exterior.

It’s tucked along a side road just off National Route 325!
Look out for the red sign — that’s your landmark!

There’s parking for about 10 cars right in front of the shop.

The restroom is outside, but they offer a diaper-changing station and a nursing room too!

The neighboring Fureai Farm even offers strawberry picking from December through May.
Here’s the shop interior.
Inside the calming, Japanese-style space, the display case is filled with cakes that look like polished jewels.
There’s a wonderful selection of baked sweets too.
They can put together gift assortments to match your budget.
They even sell handmade accessories that match the shop’s gentle aesthetic.
You can dine in too — there are 3 tables available.
They also have a variety of magazines around, so you can settle in and relax.
There’s a children’s chair and picture books for little ones, too.
And here’s the best part — Bairinka is dog-friendly inside the shop!
It’s pretty rare to find a cake shop where you can bring your pup along, isn’t it?
Minamiaso has plenty of dog runs nearby, so swinging by for a sweet treat after some playtime is
…absolutely the best!!
There’s a drink menu as well.
Minamiaso spring water is ¥160,
and everything else is just ¥250!
It’s nice that there are kid-friendly drink options too♪

So… which one to choose?! 😄
I was planning to grab two or three, but…
I only had ¥1,000 in my wallet! Σ( ̄ロ ̄lll)
Looks like one cake and a coffee will have to do, haha.
Note: cash only at this shop!

Every cake is under ¥500 — what wonderfully reasonable prices (^^)
Honestly, they all look amazing!
After much deliberation, I went with:
Strawberry Tart — ¥450
Hot Coffee — ¥250
Heaven in dessert form.
Oh wow — soooo good♡♡
Sweet, juicy strawberries paired with
fresh cream, custard, and a hidden strawberry sauce inside the tart…
None of it is overly sweet — every layer has this gentle, refined flavor.
I could easily eat three more! …if only I’d brought more cash (+_+)
Pudding — ¥400
I just had to bring something home for the kids,
so I dashed to a nearby convenience store ATM, haha.
The pudding is topped with seasonal fresh fruit.
This time it featured strawberries and La France pears!
Wow — sooo creamy and dreamy♡
Seriously, I could eat three more!! (^□^)
Kids and parents alike, haha.
From the cozy atmosphere to the cakes and pudding, this place is truly something special.
Definitely add it to your Minamiaso itinerary!
By the way, I left my jacket behind, so I’ll be heading back this weekend, haha.
More cake in my future! Yay (^^)
