Welcome to Karaage Shogun

Hello there!
This is Kurumikko, your Sarukuma writer!

Today I’m introducing
Usagidani in Kita Ward, Kumamoto City,
home to “Karaage Shogun” — a Japanese fried chicken takeout shop.

“Karaage Shogun”
A name that sticks in your head the moment you hear it,
and a storefront with a look that’s just as bold and eye-catching!!

There’s parking for one or two cars right next to the shop.

This shop specializes in takeout, and
you place your order at this little serving window.
It’s the kind of casual setup that anyone can pop up to with ease!

Karaage (150g) — 350 yen
Salt-flavored Karaage (150g) — 350 yen
Fried Chicken Wings — 1 for 150 yen / 5 for 450 yen
Tonsoku (Pig’s Trotters) — 400 yen
Fried Chicken Tenders — 1 for 150 yen
French Fries — 300 yen

Just reading the menu is enough to make your mouth water 🥢

And get this — students get 50 yen off
the regular 350-yen karaage!!

Recommended Menu Items

My student days are a fading memory at this point — but anyway, here we go!

This time I tried the Karaage (150g) for 350 yen
and the Salt Karaage (150g) for 350 yen!

Once I ordered, they fried it up fresh on the spot, so I waited about 5 minutes.
Knowing I was getting it piping hot and freshly fried had me so excited (*’▽’*)

And here it is — the karaage I’d been waiting for (*´▽`*)

Beautifully crispy, golden-fried karaage!

And what surprised me — each piece is HUGE!!
The car filled up with the savory aroma of freshly fried karaage (*´▽`*) Pure happiness.

Here’s the 150g karaage.
And that mayonnaise on the side? Absolutely irresistible.

Just imagining how the flavors play together gets me drooling all over again (´▽`*)
Time to dip in!

One bite, and piping-hot juices come bursting out~~

This is the magic of just-fried karaage!!
Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside —
mayonnaise × karaage = pure perfection (*´▽`*)

Up next, the salt-flavored karaage (150g).

This one’s delicious too!!
Though honestly, way too big for one bite (*’∀’*)

The salty seasoning is so addictive — you could eat one after another.
My family shared them, but they disappeared in no time — seriously habit-forming (*’▽’*)

There’s just something special about a casual takeout spot, isn’t there? (´▽`*)
A bite of karaage, and a bite of happiness right along with it 😚

Thanks for the meal!
