Today I’m excited to introduce you to a hidden gem located in Honjo, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City:
“Bakery & Cafe Sante”.

Have you heard of “Bakery & Cafe Sante”? It’s a charming bakery tucked inside the grounds of Kumamoto University Hospital!

Their melon pan is so incredible that it sells out constantly — and today I’m going to tell you all about it!

You’ll find Bakery & Cafe Sante in the building to the left of the main entrance of Kumamoto University Hospital.

Parking is available within the hospital grounds, which is super convenient.

Step inside Bakery & Cafe Sante and you’ll be greeted by a wonderful spread!

The selection is impressive — salted butter rolls (shio pan), Japanese-style coppe pan, sweet pastries, savory sandwich-style breads, and so much more.

The chilled drinks corner also offers sandwiches and chiffon cake!

There’s also a spacious eat-in area inside Bakery & Cafe Sante — perfect for a quick break.

And good news for families — they have children’s chairs too!

Two microwaves are available for re-warming your bread to enjoy that fresh-baked feel.

There’s even a handwashing station — a thoughtful touch much appreciated by visitors.

Beyond bread, you’ll also find coffee beans, eco bags, and quirky little goods that make browsing a delight!

Must-Try Menu Items at Bakery & Cafe Sante

Here’s what I tried during my visit!

Melon Pan — 140 yen

It’s so unbelievably fluffy that you almost feel like you’ll squish it just by holding it!

I happened to arrive right when a fresh batch came out of the oven — still warm, even fluffier than usual, absolutely heavenly.

These melon pan sell out incredibly fast, so if you spot one, grab it immediately — no hesitation!

Just look at this!
The crisscrossed crispy top and the soft fluffy interior — both delightfully sweet!

And that wonderful chewy, mochi-like texture inside the melon pan…
