Today I’m introducing a hidden gem located in Tsukikago, Uto City, Kumamoto:
“Kofuku Gyoza”
The name literally means “mouth happiness” — and trust me, when you bite into these juicy dumplings, your mouth really does fill with pure joy =͟͟͞͞🥟🥟🥟

This pristine little spot opened last November.
The owner is from Beijing, so you know the dumplings are going to be the real deal! 😊

Sitting along the Senba River and just a short hop from Uto City Hall, the restaurant has a spacious parking lot right out front 🚙💨

Ordering is done via a meal ticket machine — a uniquely Japanese experience!

You can also dine in!

Pan-fried gyoza (6 pieces): 350 yen
Beijing-style Zhajiangmen noodles: 500 yen
Gyoza set meal: 550 yen
(*Set meals are only served from 11:00–13:30 and 16:30–20:00 — don’t miss it!)
Takeaway frozen raw gyoza

This time, I picked up the takeaway pan-fried gyoza and the frozen raw gyoza to try at home!

Takeaway pan-fried gyoza, 6 pieces for 350 yen

Beautifully golden-brown, just the way they should be (^^)

Each one is seriously generous in size!!! (ﾟ∀ﾟ)

The best part? They come with their own special dipping sauce!
Bite into one piping hot, and the savory juices burst into your mouth…

That crispy bottom paired with the chewy, handmade wrapper — absolutely delicious!!!

And here’s the frozen raw gyoza, with shiso (Japanese perilla) leaves inside.

They even include a printed cooking guide, so you don’t have to guess.

Ta-da! How did mine turn out?

The shiso version is light, refreshing, and disappears in seconds. The perfect partner for a cold beer 😍
