About the Restaurant

This is Mikan 🍊, writer for [SaruKuma].

Today I’m introducing
Sushi Tora, located in Tsukure, Kikuyo Town, Kikuchi District, Kumamoto Prefecture.

Sushi Tora’s main location is in Miyazaki Prefecture, and the brand has been around for an impressive 67 years.
It’s a hugely popular spot pursuing the ultimate conveyor belt sushi experience!

I’d heard rumors that waits of one to two hours are the norm here,
so this time I made a reservation in advance through the EPARK booking site!

Reservations open at 11:30 a.m.

Once your booking is confirmed, this screen pops up!
With reservation in hand, off we go to the restaurant 🚗

Even though it had only been 20 minutes since opening, the parking lot near the restaurant was already completely full.

There were plenty of people waiting outside too — clearly a major hotspot.
Expectations were high!

Stepping inside, you’re greeted by the lively, energetic voices of the staff 😊😊

There’s a ticket machine at the entrance — take a number and
wait at the seating area until your number is called!

The photo shows the view from the waiting area.

In the center, the sushi chefs are non-stop crafting fresh sushi,
with table seats on either side and counter seating along the ends.

On this day, my number was called after about a 30-minute wait!

Booking ahead really paid off —
the wait felt much shorter than expected!

Since I was traveling with my child, the staff kindly set up a kids’ chair when we were seated!
Such a thoughtful touch ♡

If you ask, they’ll also lend you children’s tableware!

First up from today’s specials,

Winter Yellowtail Trio (350 yen)

Winter Yellowtail (240 yen)

The first thing that struck me was how huge the toppings are!
And because they’re freshly pressed, the rice is wonderfully warm.

The yellowtail’s rich fattiness and natural sweetness are out of this world.

It’s nothing like your average sushi. (Lol)

It was so good I couldn’t stop grinning! (Lol)

Sushi Tora is also famous for its aburi (seared) sushi.

I ordered the Tora Aburi Trio (400 yen).

You can actually watch the sushi being seared right from your seat!
Which means, of course, it arrives piping hot off the flame 💓💓💓

One bite and the smoky aroma of the sear fills your senses,
while the fat melts away on your tongue.

It’s also lightly seasoned with salt, which
pairs perfectly with the sear! An unbeatable combo!

Up next is my absolute favorite —
the Salt & Lemon series 🍋

Squid Salt & Lemon Trio (350 yen)

Tora Salt & Lemon Trio (400 yen)

You don’t even need soy sauce for these.

Just enjoy them with salt and lemon!

It draws out the natural sweetness of the fish
in the most addictive way. Seriously, it’s habit-forming.

Ever since I discovered this, I’ve been ordering nothing but the salt & lemon series (Lol)

I was completely hooked on Sushi Tora’s creations
Takeout is also available!

There’s a dedicated takeout menu too.

They’ve also started taking reservations for the New Year holiday season!

Special hors d’oeuvre platters and sushi assortments will be available.
