Introducing Aso Torimiya

Today I’m thrilled to introduce
“Aso Torimiya”,
located in Ichinomiya-machi Miyaji, Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
You’ll find it tucked along the charming Aso Ichinomiya Monzen-machi shopping street, right at the foot of Aso Shrine.

Look for the cluster of corn hanging at the entrance — that’s your landmark!
This is a place full of childhood memories for me, somewhere I’ve been visiting since I was a little girl ♪

I really want to share it with all of you, so please read on!

You can place your order inside the shop and
enjoy your food piping hot, fresh from the fryer.

They also sell fresh meat and a variety of drinks.

Frozen versions are available too, making them perfect souvenirs to take back to your hotel or home ^^

You’ll also find local seasonings and condiments — a great way to bring a taste of Aso back with you (*´Д｀)

Toward the back of the shop, there’s a cozy bench area where
you can sit and enjoy your meal ^^
The atmosphere here is absolutely wonderful — rustic and full of character.

The water here is drinkable — a chance to taste Aso’s famously pure spring water for free ♪

Freshly fried and piping hot — instant happiness ( *´艸｀)

First, I dove into the No.1 bestselling Barokke (horse meat croquette).

So nostalgic!!
Yes! THIS is the taste! Absolutely delicious!

The fluffy, steaming potato is just incredible.
Kids love it too and gobble it up in seconds ♪
The horse meat inside has such a rich, savory flavor that the moment you bite in,
the sweetness of the potato and the umami of the meat hit you all at once ( *´艸｀)
Pure bliss~~

(Note for international visitors: horse meat, known as basashi or bariki, is a traditional and beloved specialty in Kumamoto Prefecture.)

Next up, the chicken tenderloin wrapped with pickled plum (umeboshi)!!

My first time trying it — and WOW, this is unbelievably good.

I almost asked, “Wait, is this really chicken tenderloin?!” because it was so juicy and tender.
The pickled plum inside adds a refreshing tang that
wakes up your appetite even more!
I thought it might be sour because of the umeboshi,
but it’s more of a gentle, sweet-tart balance that’s just perfect!

And eating outside in the fresh Aso air just
makes everything taste twice as good ♪
