📌 What you’ll learn in this article
A SaruKuma writer visits “Tezukuri Agepan-ya,” a charming fried bread shop in Shinoe, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City. Prices start from just 110 yen. We also cover family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.

Hello, fellow travelers!

I’m Binako, a SaruKuma writer who’s always trying to expand my appetite for delicious local treats!

Today I’d like to introduce you to a delightful little spot in Shinoe, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City:
“Tezukuri Agepan-ya” (Handmade Fried Bread Shop).

The shop itself is adorable! It operates out of a converted wagon-style container, and on the bottom right you’ll spot a sign reading “Kodomo Hinan no Ie” (Children’s Safe House) — a reassuring symbol that local kids recognize as a place where they can seek help if needed. A lovely community touch! ^^

The shop is tucked away slightly off the main road, but it pops right up on GPS navigation, so you’ll find it easily! ♪

Recommended Menu

Here’s what’s on offer:

Kinako (roasted soybean flour)
Kibizato (raw cane sugar)
Cinnamon
Garlic
All flavors are a flat 110 yen

Agepan Soft Serve: 350 yen

The prices are super wallet-friendly — perfect for a kids’ snack or a quick traveler’s treat! ♪

This time, I went with the Kinako flavor for 110 yen!

It’s beautifully thick, fresh out of the fryer, and piping hot.
The kinako (roasted soybean flour) is generously dusted on top, and its nutty aroma is absolutely heavenly.
The smell was so irresistible, I just couldn’t wait…

CHOMP!
I took a huge bite without a moment’s hesitation.

Oh my goodness — this is unbelievably good!

So fluffy~
So chewy~
Fluffy-chewy perfection~

Pure happiness in every bite!

I’d assumed agepan (fried bread) would be heavy and dense, but this one is surprisingly light and easy to eat.

The kinako melts into the freshly fried dough, and with every bite the nutty flavor blooms — I just couldn’t stop eating!

And just like that… it was gone. So sad. I want more!

Hmm, next time I really want to try the cinnamon flavor too~

If you’re not into sweets, there’s also the savory garlic option, so everyone can find something to love~ ♪
Kids and adults alike can share these together, making it the perfect spot for a fun snack break during your Kumamoto adventure! ( *´艸`)

Be sure to give it a try!
