Hello and nice to meet you!
I’m Ayu-mama, a sarukuma writer!
I’m a working mom raising a kindergarten-aged son!
From now on, I’ll be sharing lots of recommended family-friendly spots around Kumamoto, along with many other places worth visiting. I look forward to bringing you these stories!
Today I’m introducing “Sukidamarinku,” located in Kengun, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City.
This bakery is famous for its salt bread (shio-pan), so many of you may already know it!
The shop is located right in front of the Kengun streetcar stop on the Kumamoto City Tram. When you ride to the final stop, it’s right there in front of you.
Fantastic access! There’s also a Mister Donut on the same property!
And of course, there’s parking too.

There’s also terrace seating,
so you can buy your bread and enjoy it fresh out of the oven right on the spot!
In these times when we need to avoid crowded spaces, the open terrace seating is a wonderful feature!
Although it wasn’t posted on the day I visited, the entrance usually displays the baking schedule for the popular salt bread!
Here’s the inside of the shop! It’s filled to the brim with all kinds of delicious-looking breads.
They also sell drinks.
The number-one bestseller is the salt bread! There’s a limit of 10 per customer!
The limit ensures that as many people as possible can enjoy this beloved bread.
Ta-da! This is the famous salt bread! Fresh-baked rolls keep arriving on the shelves one after another.
They even have a unique salt melon bread variation!
The sandwiches look delicious too!
It’s so hard to choose what to eat!
Inside the shop, they even offer free hot coffee! What a lovely service!
When you make a purchase, you also receive a free parking ticket, so you can shop comfortably and at your own pace!
There are restrooms inside the building,
and a diaper-changing station too!
Recommended Menu
Of course, this time I tried the number-one bestseller: the salt bread.
Just 100 yen per piece! Incredibly reasonable!
The salt is perfectly balanced, and when fresh out of the oven, the outside is hot and crispy β so delicious you could eat one after another!
This quality for just 100 yen β unbelievable!
I’m actually a huge salt bread fan, and I’ve been comparing salt breads from many different bakeries.
Among all of them, Sukidamarinku’s salt bread is the very best!
Once you taste it, no other salt bread will compare. This is the King of Salt Bread!
Of course, it’s also a hit with kids β my 6-year-old son loves it so much he gobbles it right up!
