2020.10.04

A Sarukuma writer visits “Akage no Anne” (Anne of Green Gables), a charming patisserie in Obiyama, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City. Prices start from 864 yen. We’ve also covered family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.
Hello, fellow travelers!
This is Binako, your Sarukuma writer!
Today I want to introduce you to a delightful little patisserie in Obiyama, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City, called “Akage no Anne” (Anne of Green Gables).

The exterior looks straight out of a fairytale — like a real-life gingerbread house!
You’ll feel excited before you even step inside!

The shop is located on the front side of Kusunoya Obiyama branch.
Parking is available right next to the shop and across the street, too. ^^

Step inside, and you’ll feel like you’ve crawled into a magical box of sweets — it’s pure joy. (*´Д`)
Shelves are filled with beautifully arranged baked treats, and during this season everything is decked out in Halloween decorations, making the shop look even more enchanting. ( *´艸`)

They also offer a sweet called Kororon — a delicate treat that crumbles delightfully in your mouth.

The cake display case absolutely sparkles — kids will be glued to the glass! ♪

One of Akage no Anne’s signature offerings is their “whole fruit” sweets series.
During my visit, the Whole Pear (Marugoto Nashi) — 864 yen was on display! ♪

The staff’s top recommendation is the Aso Volcanic Cream Puff (Aso no Kazan-yaki) — 180 yen.
This is Akage no Anne’s original cream puff, named after the famous Mt. Aso volcano nearby.

They also had a kiln-baked apple pie — and the bake on it looked absolutely irresistible.

This is the Marron (Chestnut) Pie — 380 yen.
Doesn’t it look heavenly? ( *´艸`)

Blueberry Cheese — 380 yen
White Cheese Mont Blanc — 398 yen
So many tempting treats to choose from! ♪

This time, I tried the Aso Volcanic Cream Puff — 180 yen!
Just look at this pastry shell.
It’s nothing like your typical cream puff dough.

Open it up and the cream is packed in generously!

WHAT IS THIS?!
The pastry shell is incredibly chewy and mochi-like!
I’ve never had a cream puff like this before.
That mochi texture is unbelievable. So good!
And this cream…
It’s not custard — it’s nut-flavored?!

The chewy mochi-like shell paired with the fragrant nutty cream is so addictive that I couldn’t stop —
before I knew it, I’d finished the whole thing despite being full from lunch!
You really, really have to try this one…
Another fan favorite at Akage no Anne is the “Kiln-Baked Cream Puff” (Kamayaki Shu Cream)!
Be sure to try that one too!
