Hello, fellow travelers!
This is Rikotama, writer for Sarukuma!

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to a hidden local gem located in Nishikigaoka, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City:
【Kin no Yakitori Takeout Specialty Shop – Koen-mae Branch】

This takeout-only yakitori shop opened in March 2020 β€” perfect timing for those who love to enjoy authentic Japanese grilled chicken skewers in the comfort of their accommodation!

I had passed by this shop countless times and always wondered about it. Finally, I made the visit!

There are 3 parking spaces right in front of the shop, and from 5:00 PM, you can also use the parking lot of DALFORNO next door β€” a wonderful local convenience!

DALFORNO is a stylish neighborhood bakery worth checking out, with parking for about 8 cars.

Inside the shop, the showcase displays an impressive variety of fresh yakitori skewers ready to be grilled!

This was my first time seeing skewers displayed like this β€” it was so tempting that I had a hard time choosing! 😊

Each skewer comes with a recommended seasoning β€” either Tare (sweet soy-based sauce) or Shio (salt) β€” depending on the cut.
And the prices? Prepare to be amazed!

Skewers start from just 50 yen each!
Incredibly affordable β€” a real bargain!

β€»Most skewers are priced under 100 yen!
There were even more options beyond what’s shown on this menu flyer.

While your skewers are being grilled, you can relax in the comfortable waiting area.
Pro tip: Phone in your order ahead of time, and you can simply pick up your yakitori with no waiting! β™ͺ

Plastic carry bags are provided free of charge β€” a nice little perk for travelers!

Recommended Menu Items

Since this was going to be the main course of our family dinner, I bought 19 skewers to try a wide variety!
Here are the 【Tare (sauce)】 ones.
Everything was delicious, but the chicken thigh (momo) was incredibly juicy and tender!

And here are the 【Shio (salt)】 skewers β€” including beef short rib (gyu-bara)!
The vegetable selection that day included eggplant, fruit tomatoes, green peppers, and even sweet potato with butter β€” delightfully creative options! 🎡

My son’s favorite was the quail egg wrapped in bacon (uzura bacon) β˜†

β€»We couldn’t finish everything in one sitting, so we reheated the leftovers in the microwave the next morning β€” and they were just as tender as the night before!

I can’t wait to come back and try different skewers next time!
