Today we’re heading to Ozu, Kumamoto, to visit a fantastic yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) restaurant called LIEBE.

Run directly by a butcher shop, LIEBE is also a proud sponsor of the Kumamoto Volters basketball team — so you know they take their meat seriously.

We heard they offer a luxurious lunch experience, so we couldn’t wait to check it out!

This time, instead of trying the popular Select Lunch (where you pick your own cuts of meat from the butcher counter), we went with the Premium Yakiniku Lunch and the Hormone (Offal) Lunch.

Bonus tip: miso soup and rice are free refills, so come hungry — you can really make a meal of it!

The meat? Absolutely outstanding — exactly what you’d expect from a butcher-run restaurant that selects every cut with care.

Our only minor note: the post-meal coffee and tea were a bit underwhelming compared to the stellar meal itself. But honestly, with meat this good, that’s a small thing.

Access

LIEBE sits surrounded by rice fields, so once you’re in the neighborhood it’s easy to spot.

Heads up though — the Google Maps pin seems to be a little off, so don’t rely on it 100%. Keep an eye out as you approach!

Traveling with kids? No problem — LIEBE has children’s chairs available, and there’s a diaper-changing table in the restroom.

It’s a wonderfully family-friendly spot. On the day we visited, there was even a mom group enjoying lunch together!
