Welcome to Oyatsu to Coffee Nagi

Hello, travelers! Spring is finally in the air here in Kumamoto.
This is Aikero, writing for Sarukuma.

Today I’d like to introduce you to a charming little café in Honmachi, Uto City
Oyatsu to Coffee Nagi (which translates to “Sweets and Coffee Calm”).
This café opened in Uto in December 2025.
Doors open at 9:30 a.m., so it’s perfect for a leisurely Japanese-style morning treat!

It’s a wonderful spot to enjoy a quiet solo moment after dropping the kids off,
or to relax with friends while a baby naps on the tatami seating area.

The name “Nagi” means a peaceful, windless calm on the sea —
and that’s exactly the feeling you get inside this lovely café.
The café is just a 2-minute drive from Uto City Mall, tucked slightly off the main Uto Honmachi street.
First-time visitors can simply search the shop’s name on Google Maps — it pops up easily. (Note: the Google Maps photo shows the parking lot.)
Turn off the road and look to your left — the two-toned bicolor building is your destination.
There’s an on-site parking lot, too!
It fits about 5 cars, so if you’re coming with a group, carpooling is a smart idea.
Inside you’ll find counter seating, regular tables,
and a raised tatami (zashiki) area — wonderfully family-friendly!
The tatami space is perfect for laying a baby down to rest.
Whether you’re flying solo or catching up with friends, you’ll feel right at home.
There’s even a baby diaper-changing station!
It’s so thoughtful to see family-friendly amenities in such a tranquil café.
When you arrive, place your order at the counter before sitting down.
Note: each guest is asked to order at least one item.

The coffee beans come from a specialty Australian roaster — a rare find in Kumamoto, with very few cafés stocking the beans here.
If you’re a coffee enthusiast, this is a must-try!

What I Recommend at Oyatsu to Coffee Nagi

I couldn’t choose between the cheesecake and the limited-quantity cream puff — so I called it fate and ordered both. (Smart logic, right? laugh)
A luxurious morning sweets-time! ♡
The cream puff has a wonderfully crisp cookie-shell exterior.
Inside is a generous filling of fresh cream — pure happiness in every bite!
The cheesecake is light and refreshingly tangy.
It’s not heavy or super-rich, so it’s perfect even in the morning — and kids will love it too.
A bonus: it comes served with a fresh mikan (mandarin orange)!
I’ve had the Minamata Japanese black tea (Wa-Koucha) before — its aroma is incredible and the flavor is gorgeous. ♡
I used to dislike black tea, but this one totally changed my mind.
My friend ordered the Hot Mikan (warm mandarin orange drink).
It has a fresh citrus aroma and a gentle natural sweetness — so soothing.
This is a seasonal item, so don’t miss your chance if you’re curious!
Uto City has so many cafés I love, and now there’s another wonderful one to add to the list.
I visited around 10 a.m. on a weekday, and a steady flow of dine-in and takeaway customers came through.
Whether you’re catching a quiet moment after school drop-off, enjoying solo time on a day off, or meeting up with friends, this is the perfect spot.
Definitely add it to your Kumamoto travel list! (^^)/
