Today I’d like to introduce a hidden gem tucked away in Hietamachi, Nishi Ward, Kumamoto City:
Hieta Minami Park.

Nestled in the quiet residential streets of Hietamachi, this charming little park is a lovely spot to discover the everyday side of Kumamoto. Let me take you on a tour! \(^_^)(^_^)/

There’s a covered bench area, perfect for a shaded break on warm Kyushu days. (*^.^*)

There’s also a cute half-circle bench.
Benches are scattered throughout the park, conveniently placed near the play areas so parents can easily keep an eye on their kids. (^-^)v

The restroom is a traditional Japanese-style (squat) toilet — a great chance to experience local culture — and it was kept very clean. (^^)

A handwashing station sits right next to the covered bench area — super handy after playtime.

Highlights of Hieta Minami Park

The first thing that catches your eye is the slide!
My little one zoomed down it again and again. (>.<)y-~

The slide has a fun wavy ripple along the way, which made it especially exciting for the kids! (*^.^*)~!

There are swings, too! (*^.^*)

And a sandbox!
I wished I’d brought along a sand toy set…

There’s also a single spring-rider toy — a classic at Japanese neighborhood parks.

And then there’s this curious rope contraption — how exactly are you supposed to play on it? Maybe swing on it like a swing… or perhaps hang from it like a little monkey?

My child walked right up to it, but stood there puzzled, trying to figure it out. (>_<)

Hieta Minami Park also has a wide open grassy area, perfect for running around or enjoying a variety of outdoor activities. ☆

Beautifully tended flowers bloom throughout the park, adding a touch of color in every direction. (*^.^*)

Hieta Minami Park turned out to be a peaceful spot where you can slow down and enjoy the seasonal blooms. (*^.^*)
