Wondering what to do on your next day off in Kumamoto?
Here’s some great news for families with little ones.
Crayon Shin-chan, a beloved anime character adored by kids and parents alike across Japan, now has his very own playground.
A Crayon Shin-chan-themed amusement park opened on April 20, 2023, and it’s an absolute must-visit.
[Crayon Shin-chan Ora no Asoberu Yume Park] is the third location in all of Japan—after Fujimi City in Saitama and Hatsukaichi City in Hiroshima—and the very first in Kyushu.
You’ll find it on the 1st floor of the South Building of Yume Town Hikari no Mori.
It’s in the same area as Akachan Honpo (baby goods) and Loft, with My Makura right next door.
We were invited to come check it out, and from left to right are our writers Miruku, Kurubushi, Asukarando, Gussan, and the adorable kids who joined us.
We dressed up as students of “Futaba Kindergarten” (the kindergarten Crayon Shin-chan attends in the show) and snapped a group photo.
Everyone gamely jumped into the surprise cosplay request—what a brave bunch! (lol)
There are children’s sizes too, so you can dress up as a family!
After entering, take off your shoes and step onto the grass play area.
There’s also a stroller parking area available.
You’ll find shoe lockers and storage cubbies, all decorated with Crayon Shin-chan designs—too cute!
Now let’s dive in!
Crayon Shin-chan Ora no Asoberu Yume Park Highlights You Can’t Miss
The first thing that caught my eye was the giant Chocobi slide—and honestly, I got more excited than the kids! (lol)
Is there anyone who hasn’t seen this iconic snack box? It’s the famous treat from the anime, and I’ve bought countless boxes for my own kids at the supermarket.
Kids climb up through the Chocobi box, cross a log bridge, and slide down a gentle roller-style slide.
At the bottom of the slide is a ball pit filled with star-shaped sponges.
Chocobi snacks are star-shaped, after all!
The sponges are super lightweight and soft, so kids can play with peace of mind.
Mom and Dad can hop right in too for some quality bonding time.
Just look at those amazing smiles!
At the Hikari no Mori location of Crayon Shin-chan Ora no Asoberu Yume Park, a HUGE Kumamon-Shin-chan air balloon greets you at the entrance.
Don’t forget to take a commemorative photo!
My personal favorite attraction? Take a guess!
If you know Crayon Shin-chan, you know his signature move involves… his bottom!
Many of the movie titles even play on the word “butt.”
This is the charming Shin-chan Butt Trampoline.
You can not only jump on it but also slide down the curve of the bottom—seriously fun!
It’s a great way for kids to burn off energy indoors.
There’s also a Futaba Kindergarten bus ride,
and a hand-cranked “Crayon Shin-chan Spinning Shinkansen” ride.
The speed can be adjusted to suit your child’s age, making it perfect for parent-and-child play.
There’s a Kantam Robo (a famous robot character from the show) base where kids can play with tools—tightening and loosening screws and building things with tools they normally aren’t allowed to handle at home because they’re “too dangerous.”
There’s a Himawari and Shiro baby area for little ones 18 months old and under.
The walls feature interactive toys for developing fine motor skills,
and babies can crawl around on the soft, fluffy faux grass—they look like they’re having a blast!
Have your camera ready when little ones pop out of Shiro’s doghouse—the photo opp lasts only a moment, so be quick! (lol)
There’s also a tablet gaming corner where kids can enjoy Crayon Shin-chan games,
a doodle corner where kids can draw and erase to their heart’s content,
and a coloring corner.
The coloring corner has tons of illustrations to choose from, plus handbells and plush toys to enjoy.
Even cooler—when you scan your finished coloring page with a tablet, the artwork transforms into 3D!
Watching their own coloring pages spring to life as characters is sure to delight any child.
The play kitchen corner is a hit too, with kids fully absorbed in pretend cooking.
The magnetic vegetables are easier to slice with a gentle motion compared to traditional Velcro-style toys.
(With magnets, hard slicing tends to send pieces flying everywhere, right? lol)
Crayon Shin-chan Ora no Asoberu Yume Park is for children aged 12 and under—but adult fans of the anime, don’t worry!
You can purchase merchandise without paying admission!
Anyone shopping for Crayon Shin-chan goods can come browse with peace of mind.
There are also limited-edition items only available at Crayon Shin-chan Ora no Asoberu Yume Park.
