Introducing Jikabaisen Coffee Komorebi
Hello travelers! I’m Miruku, a writer for [Sarukuma].
Today I’m excited to introduce a hidden gem located in Suya, Koshi City:
[Jikabaisen Coffee Komorebi] (House-Roasted Coffee Komorebi).

What a stunningly stylish exterior!
Just looking at it makes you want to step inside, doesn’t it?
Komorebi (which means “sunlight filtering through trees” in Japanese) opened in June 2022. Here, each cup is brewed to your personal preference using either the siphon method or hand drip technique.

The cafe is conveniently located right across from the Lawson convenience store, just steps from Shin-Suya Station on the Kumamoto Electric Railway line.

The entrance can be a bit tricky to spot. Just walk between the yellow poles, pass by the colorful banner flags, and you’ll find the parking area.

You can park on this gravel lot.

Enter the cafe via the staircase on the right side of the parking lot.

Open the warm wooden door, and…

…you’re welcomed into this absolutely charming, homey atmosphere.
You’ll be greeted by the warm-hearted master and his lovely, smiling wife (^^)
Here’s something amazing: the master crafted much of the cafe himself, including the furniture and the magnificent counter table.
Even the black wood-burning stove on the right side of the photo is his handmade creation!

The table seating? All handmade too!
These are truly one-of-a-kind pieces you won’t find anywhere else, each crafted with love and attention to detail.

The wooden deck terrace seating is his work as well.
Isn’t that incredible?!
I’d love to learn his DIY techniques myself.
Honestly, the place is just so stylish…
I was so captivated by the beautiful space that it took me a while just to find my seat (laughs).
That’s how thoughtfully every detail has been crafted.

Here’s something rare to see in cafes these days: a traditional siphon coffee maker.
Just listening to the gentle bubbling of the water and watching the coffee slowly brew creates such an elegant, meditative experience.

The master prepares each cup individually, selecting beans tailored to your personal taste so you can enjoy a truly one-of-a-kind cup of coffee.

Here’s the menu.

Recommended Menu Items at Jikabaisen Coffee Komorebi

I ordered the highly recommended Aged Cheesecake Set (drink + 280 yen).
Paired with a hand drip hot coffee.

The cheesecake is butter-free, lightly sweetened, and aged for over 3 days.
It pairs beautifully with the coffee, and they even draw the cafe’s logo on the plate, which is such a lovely touch.
The texture was wonderfully moist with a gentle, delicate flavor ☺︎

My coffee was brewed using a recently arrived bean called “Kaede” (meaning Maple).
It has a deep, rich body with a satisfying acidity that lingers on the palate.
This is the cafe’s original house blend.
Every sip felt like it was made with genuine care, creating a wonderfully cozy experience.

It’s the kind of warm, welcoming cafe where time just slips away as you relax.
Also, starting Friday, September 16th, they introduced a new lunch menu featuring hot sandwiches!
Their previous opening time was 1:00 PM, but they’ve now changed it to around 11:00 AM!
Updates are posted regularly, so check their Instagram for the latest details.
