Introducing JUGAAD BROS DOUGHNUTS

Hello there! It’s Mofumofu 🐈, writer for [SaruKuma].

Today I’m excited to share a charming little spot located in Maemibara, Yamato Town, Kamimashiki District:
JUGAAD BROS DOUGHNUTS.

This delightful doughnut shop newly opened on Saturday, July 16, 2022!

What makes this place truly special? The owners renovated this traditional Japanese house (kominka) entirely by themselves!

They told us, “Everything except the water, electricity, and gas is handmade by us!” — which absolutely blew our minds Σ(・ω・ノ)ノ!

Step inside and… wow, the interior is incredibly stylish!

The warm wooden tones paired with vibrant orange tablecloths create an atmosphere I absolutely adore!

There’s also a counter seat — perfect for solo travelers wanting to relax with a coffee and doughnut!

In the back, there’s a lovely tatami area that families with kids will adore, complete with picture books and toys ✨
The selection of picture books is impressive — even adults might find themselves saying, “Oh, I remember this one!” with a touch of nostalgia.

【Please remove your shoes before entering the tatami area 🐾 — a traditional Japanese custom】

The toys include wooden blocks and little vehicles, so children stay happily entertained ♪
Meanwhile, parents can enjoy a moment of peace with a delicious doughnut 🍩✨

JUGAAD BROS DOUGHNUTS — Recommended Menu

The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a beautiful display of mouthwatering doughnuts 💕

They offer three distinct dough types: Vegan, Old Fashioned, and Bambalouni!

From top right to left:

・Soy Milk Cream (Vegan) — ¥320

・Chestnut Doughnut (newly released from September 8 — the day we visited — so the label hadn’t been added yet)

・Plain Glazed (Vegan) — ¥280

・Blueberry Crumble (Vegan) — ¥380

・Fig Glazed (Vegan) — ¥400

・Espresso Glazed (Vegan) — ¥380

・Plain Glazed (Old Fashioned) — ¥280

・White Chocolate Cranberry (Old Fashioned) — ¥380

・Chocolate Pistachio (Old Fashioned) — ¥380

・Caramel Pecan (Old Fashioned) — ¥380

And there’s more on the side!

・Piccolino (Old Fashioned) — ¥30

・Spicy Cinnamon (Old Fashioned) — ¥320

The mini doughnuts are perfectly sized for little ones ✨

The drink menu is wonderfully varied too!

・Café Latte — Hot ¥500 / Iced ¥550

・Americano — Hot ¥450 / Iced ¥500

・Japanese Black Tea (Wakocha) — Hot ¥410 / Iced ¥440

・Organic Ginger Ale — ¥350

・Organic Juice (Apple / Orange) — ¥350

This time, I enjoyed the Chocolate Pistachio (Old Fashioned) along with Japanese black tea, right inside the shop 🤭

Here’s the surprise: the dough actually contains spices! I thought it would be too sophisticated for kids, but my child happily munched away! 😊

Because it’s not overly sweet, it’s a great choice for men too — I felt like I could keep eating one after another ♪
And the Japanese black tea? Absolutely delicious ✨

Even better, there’s a tea plantation right nearby, and visitors can actually go see it!

And the most popular item among repeat customers — the Bambalouni (Vegan) at ¥300 — is actually a traditional Tunisian doughnut! 🍩

Each one is fried fresh to order, so it arrives piping hot and wonderfully chewy! (Once it cools slightly, it becomes even more delightfully chewy ✨)
The entire doughnut is generously coated in sugar ☆

It looked so irresistibly delicious that I ended up grabbing some for takeout too 💕

While it’s a bit of a drive from central Kumamoto City, the journey through mountains and rivers makes for a wonderfully refreshing change of scenery 🚗✨
It’s a great reminder of how rejuvenating it can be to escape into nature now and then!

The famous Tsujun Bridge (Tsujunkyo) — a stunning historic stone aqueduct — is also nearby, so be sure to swing by JUGAAD BROS DOUGHNUTS when you’re exploring the area! ♪
