Introducing ABC Curry

Hello, this is Gachako, a writer for [Sarukuma].

The other day, I participated in a mystery-solving marketplace event.
My preschooler chose the easy course,
and was excited the whole time, repeatedly shouting “I got it!!!” — having an absolute blast.

After walking around solving puzzles and using both our minds and bodies…

…we got hungry — and just then,

BAM!

Drawn in by a wonderfully spicy aroma, we were practically pulled toward this food truck.

Today’s feature is a mobile curry truck that travels throughout Kumamoto Prefecture:
[ABC Curry]
Based in Kashima Town, they serve horse tendon curry made with Kumamoto’s famous specialty — basashi (horse meat).
Horse meat is high in protein, low in calories, and surprisingly nutritious — a true health food, packed with collagen too.
I absolutely love Kumamoto horse meat.

“Chunky horse tendon”… sounds delicious, right?

And check out the eye-catching illustration painted on the food truck.
It looks just like the owner! A gentle-looking gentleman wearing a turban, just like in the picture.
I really should have asked permission to take his photo… (sigh)

ABC Curry’s Recommended Menu

Now, let’s take a look at the menu.

Kumamoto Horse Tendon Curry… 600 yen
Croquette Curry… 600 yen
Plain Curry Rice… 500 yen
Chicken Tender Cutlet Curry… 700 yen
Pork Loin Curry… 750 yen
Horse Meat Croquette… 180 yen each, 3 for 500 yen
French Fries / Mexican Potatoes… 300 yen

Did you notice it?
“Curry roux can be changed to mild (sweet)!”

This is so thoughtful — essential for families with young children.
Now adults and kids can enjoy authentic curry together.

I ordered the Mild Kumamoto Horse Tendon Curry (600 yen)!

↑ This is almost entirely meat!
It’s loaded with chunky pieces of horse tendon — what a treat!
The meat falls apart the moment it hits your tongue.
The rich umami of the horse meat and the essence of all the vegetables have melted beautifully into the roux.

I had the mild version, but it isn’t an overly sweet curry — it’s still properly spicy and aromatic.
So even adults can enjoy it without any complaints.
The heat is well controlled, so children can savor it too.

They also offer frozen curry roux to take home.
A must-have for the freezer on those days when you don’t feel like cooking.
Oyster Coconut Curry? Crab-stick Cream Curry?
Doesn’t that sound intriguing?
