Introducing coco/anju Chiffon Sandwich Specialty Shop

Hello, travelers!
It’s Binako, your Sarukuma writer β€” currently dreaming about moving house!

Today I’m taking you to
Wakaba, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City, where you’ll find
“coco/anju Chiffon Sandwich Specialty Shop.”

This brand-new chiffon sandwich shop opened on April 10, 2022.
Fruit sandwich shops have been popping up everywhere lately, but a specialty shop dedicated to chiffon cake sandwiches? Now that’s something rare and exciting!

I couldn’t wait to see what kinds of creations they had in store.

The parking lot is spacious and easy to use β€” a real plus if you’re driving.

Outside the shop, you’ll spot two small tables where you can enjoy your treats right after purchasing.

The sunshine pours in beautifully here β€” a lovely spot to relax and recharge!

Step inside and you’ll see a charming display case lined up beside the order counter, filled with chiffon sandwiches.
The handwritten menu board adds such a warm, welcoming touch.

The top shelf showcases the sweet chiffon sandwiches β€” every single one looks irresistible.
They’d make a perfect gift to bring along when visiting friends!

The bottom shelf holds the savory chiffon sandwiches!
Chiffon cake usually screams “sweet,” so I was so curious how flavors like egg salad and teriyaki would taste in this format.

This time, from front to back, I tried:
・Green Tea (330 yen)
・Chocolate (330 yen)
・Egg (240 yen)

First up β€” the savory chiffon sandwich I’d been most curious about.

Familiar fluffy chiffon cake meets a generous, rich layer of egg salad inside.
The eggs come from “Ogata Egg Farm,” which Sarukuma has previously featured β€” a thoughtful, premium choice.

My little one took the biggest bite imaginable.

The lightly salted chiffon and the deeply flavored egg are a match made in heaven.
Each savory sandwich uses a different seasoning, so they’re really fun to share with the whole family!

And here’s the Green Tea sandwich.
Matcha whipped cream surrounding shiratama (chewy rice flour dumplings) and sweet red bean paste β€” this is everything I love in one bite!

The chiffon cake is so airy it practically dissolves on your tongue β€” absolutely delicious!
And the moment it hits your mouth, the bright aroma of matcha sweeps in and lifts your mood.

The melt-in-your-mouth chiffon, the creamy whipped cream,
the chewy shiratama, and the gentle sweetness of red bean paste β€”
everything harmonizes perfectly, soothing you from head to toe.

And here’s the Chocolate one.
It’s topped with a Lotus Biscoff cookie β€” just looking at it makes you smile.

My son’s enthusiastic bite said it all!

Chocolate flakes are folded into the whipped cream, giving you a delightful contrast β€” fluffy chiffon on one side, crunchy flakes on the other. Pure happiness, twice over.

The shop staff are so kind and friendly that I almost forgot to leave! (laugh)

There are still so many tempting chiffon creations waiting to be tried β€” please pay them a visit and discover your favorite!
