Welcome to SCENERY

Hello, fellow travelers!
As the weather warms up, there’s nothing I love more than a refreshing cup of coffee β€” and today, your aroma-loving Sarukuma writer is here to share a real gem.

Let me introduce you to
a charming cafΓ© tucked away in Minamiaso, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture β€”
SCENERY.

You’ll find SCENERY inside the grounds of Michi-no-Eki Aso-Bo-no-Sato Kugino, a popular roadside station in Minamiaso Village.

There’s plenty of parking, so it’s the perfect place to stop and stretch your legs during a road trip. The expansive grounds also include a dog run and outdoor dining areas, making it a favorite stop for tourists exploring the Aso region.

SCENERY specializes in hand-roasted coffee beans and takeaway coffee drinks.

The first thing that caught my eye was the “Cold Brew Coffee πŸ’›” sign β€” the perfect summer drink!

Beyond takeaway drinks, the shop also sells coffee-related goods. Let’s step inside and see what’s in store.

So many tempting choices! But this aroma-loving girl knew exactly what she wanted today.

The Minamiaso Spring Water Cold Brew was calling my name!
I went with the cold brew, while my kids chose orange juice and Calpis πŸ’›

Wow πŸ’› Look at that!

There’s nothing better than cold brew coffee on a beautiful sunny day.

Today’s cold brew was made with their original “Nadeshiko” beans β€” that deep-roast richness in cold brew form β™‘

Time for the first sip!

“Mmm! Even though it’s a dark roast, it’s incredibly smooth and refreshing β€” full-bodied yet so easy to drink. Absolutely delicious!”

I could honestly drink this all day long πŸ’›

The kids happily gulped down their Calpis and orange juice.

There’s a free seating area with tables right outside the shop, perfect for relaxing while you sip your drink β™ͺ

My youngest finished his drink in no time (haha)!

So tasty, right? (*^-^*)

I also picked up a drip bag set to enjoy at home β™ͺ
Once home, I brewed it HOT to compare!

The hot version is just as amazing πŸ’› Wonderfully smooth on the palate, with a perfect balance of mild bitterness and rich body.
But honestly β€” nothing beats sipping a freshly brewed cup with the breathtaking Minamiaso landscape as your backdrop!

SCENERY is run by a lovely husband-and-wife team.

They are wonderfully friendly and warm-hearted people. They even kept my kids entertained β€” we all felt so welcomed during our visit.

What’s more, they dry the used coffee grounds and reuse them as fertilizer.
It’s beautiful to see such a thoughtful, zero-waste cycle in action.

If you’re traveling around Minamiaso, be sure to drop by SCENERY for a coffee break. The cold brew is especially recommended this time of year πŸ’›
