Today I’m excited to introduce you to Tatsuda Jinnai in Kita Ward, Kumamoto City, home to the wonderful
“Gonjino”.

I’ve come to realize through my work as a Saru-Kuma writer that I have a real soft spot for stand-alone house restaurants with gardens… 😄

And today, I’m thrilled to share another lovely garden restaurant with you!

To find it: from the Tatsuda Nishi intersection on the North Bypass, head toward the West Tatsuda no Mori store, then turn right and continue along the road. You’ll spot it on your way 🚙💨

What a beautiful approach!

The parking lot is right in front of the restaurant 🚙💨

Step inside and the first thing that catches your eye is a stunning lineup of mouthwatering breads 😍
Wait — is this a bakery?!
That’s how many varieties of bread you’ll find 🥖🥐🍕

Everything is house-made! And yes, you can buy the bread on its own to take home.

They also sell house-made ham and bacon 😋

The interior is spacious and stylish.

The back room is bathed in beautiful natural light.

And in winter, they fire up the fireplace ❤ What a luxurious touch!

Children’s chairs are also available 👦👧

And here’s my top pick for the upcoming season — the terrace seats! 🌸
The garden was even in full cherry blossom when I visited 🌸

The garden is wonderfully spacious — and dogs are welcome too! 🐶

Pizza Set: 1,380 yen and more…
The pizzas, baked in their own wood-fired kiln, come highly recommended 🍕

You’ll also find the Ham and Bacon Grill Set (1,680 yen) and Hamburger Set (1,680 yen) on the menu!

Recommended Dishes at Gonjino

This time, I ordered the Gratin Set (1,380 yen) and the Spaghetti Set (1,380 yen) ♪
(*Sets come with salad, soup, and a drink)

First up — the salad ★
A generous portion, topped with plenty of freshly shaved cheese. So elegant!

Next, the soup ♪

Packed with chunky beans and vegetables, it’s bursting with rich, savory flavor (^O^)

And here’s the main event — the gratin from the set, served with bread!

Piping hot gratin with melty, gooey cheese 😍

House-made bacon and fluffy potatoes — absolutely incredible!

And of course, the house-made bread is delicious too (´∀｀)

Next up, the meat sauce spaghetti from the spaghetti set ♪

Topped with a generous mountain of shaved cheese — pure joy 🧀

The pasta portion was hearty, leaving me wonderfully full. So delicious! 😋

To finish, I enjoyed coffee and tea from the included drink options ♪

Even though it’s close to the city, this place truly feels like a peaceful escape ♪
