About days room cafe

Hello there!

It’s Binako, the SaruKuma writer whose chair backrest is so short my lower back is about to cave in!

Today I’m introducing days room cafe, located in Hattanda, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City—a charming spot that’s perfect for travelers exploring the eastern part of Kumamoto.

The cafe was previously located in the Obiyama area, but on January 8th—which happens to be my older sister’s birthday—it relocated and reopened in Hattanda.

You’ll find parking spaces right next to the cafe and in front of the building it’s housed in—super convenient for visitors driving in.

When you step inside, you’ll first be greeted with hand sanitizer and a temperature check—a reassuring touch for travelers.

Seating includes both table seats and counter seats, with vinyl partitions installed as a COVID-19 safety measure.

There are kid’s chairs available too, making this a welcoming spot for families traveling with children.

Here’s the lunch menu:

・Tandoori Chicken Curry — 1,080 yen
・Weekly Pasta Lunch — 980 yen
・Homemade Rye Bread Croque Monsieur Lunch — 880 yen
・Pizza Lunch
 Margherita — 880 yen
 Three Cheese — 880 yen
Potato and Bacon — 900 yen

Every lunch comes with a salad and soup. Add 200 yen for a dessert set—totally worth it!

Recommended Menu at days room cafe

I had fallen head-over-heels for the rye bread croque monsieur the moment I saw it on Instagram, so that was my pick.

First up was the salad—and oh my goodness.

The crisp, fresh greens were topped with crunchy granola, giving every bite a satisfying texture. With each chew, I felt myself going from fun, to delicious, to flat-out in love.

And then came the croque monsieur. Just hearing the words “rye bread” was enough to win me over.

The stylish photo below was actually taken by one of the lovely staff members.

The bread alone is so good it could move you to tears.

Crispy on the outside, springy and chewy on the inside, with a ridiculous tangle of melted cheese and creamy white sauce. Toasty fragrance meets velvety creaminess—this is, quite literally, an unbeatable warrior on a plate.

The ham is wonderfully juicy too, releasing a clean, refreshing meaty flavor that fills your mouth with every bite.

I went for the dessert set, too. I was torn between the special coffee jelly and the cake, but since I’m a walnut fan, I went with the cake. The handmade-style cake is genuinely soothing.

The sweetness is so gentle I could honestly eat the whole thing. Moist banana paired with the satisfying crunch and rich flavor of walnuts—it’s a comforting kind of delicious.

The smooth cream is silky on the tongue, and pairing it with the cake takes the happiness factor to a whole new level.

And on my way out, I spotted some DJ equipment.

It’s a hobby of the owner—apparently, he occasionally gets the place going with some DJ vibes at night.

From now on, whenever I pass by the cafe in the evening, I’ll be thinking (Looks like the owner’s having a great night tonight~) and feeling a little extra connection to the place.

The staff at days room cafe were genuinely warm and friendly—the kind of welcoming hospitality that makes Japan such a joy to visit.

It’s a comfortable space where you can enjoy a solo lunch without feeling out of place—perfect for solo travelers exploring Kumamoto.

If you’re in the area, definitely give it a try!
