About the Restaurant

Hello, travelers!
This is Sunny 🐩, a writer for SaruKuma.

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to GANESHA, an authentic Indian restaurant located in Ikutomi, Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
Here’s the welcoming exterior.

The parking lot in front was already full when we arrived.
This wildly popular spot has plenty of regulars who keep coming back.
You’ll find Ganesha along a lively street in the Hikari-no-Mori area, near Shimamura and Cosmos drugstore.

There are 4 parking spaces in front of the restaurant
and 4 more across the street.
The parking lot across the street. Look for the Indian flag sign — it’s the perfect landmark.
There’s a recommendation board out front.
We visited at lunchtime, so the daily specials were chalked up for everyone to see. Step inside. The interior is decked out in vibrant red,
with exotic decorations and tablecloths that whisk you straight to India ♪

There are 9 tables seating 2 to 6 people, plus a counter.
Children’s chairs are also available.
Through the glass next to the register, you can watch the staff hand-stretching naan dough.
Most of the staff members are from India.

They’re all incredibly kind and welcoming (^^)
With warm smiles, they even let our kids peek inside the tandoor oven and watch the naan being shaped — a memorable experience! ♪

Menu HighlightsEven the naan comes in many varieties.

For set menus, you can choose your favorite curry from a wide selection.

There’s also a kids’ set with half-sized naan and a mild, kid-friendly curry — perfect for little ones. The curry options are extensive.

And a “Secret Curry”… now that’s intriguing!
Side dishes too.
Papad, pakora, samosa — plus several authentic Indian dishes you may not have tried before.

And of course, no curry meal is complete without a refreshing lassi! ♪
You can choose from 6 spice levels.
The “sweet” level is mild enough even for small children.

I always go for “hot” or “very hot” myself (^^)Most menu items are also available for takeout — great for travelers grabbing food on the go.

Recommended Dishes

When you order curry, the first thing brought to your table is
“papad” — a thin, crispy Indian cracker made from lentil flour. The flavor might be an acquired taste, but both my kids and I are huge fans! ♪My kids ordered the
Kids Set — 550 yen
You can choose between orange juice or ice cream as a drink/dessert.

I forgot to snap a photo of the ice cream, but it’s vanilla topped with mango sauce — looks absolutely delicious! (^^)
Look at the size of that naan!!!

It hangs over the edge of the plate by more than half! (LOL)
And remember — this is the half-size!

Despite its enormous size,
my 6-year-old daughter polished it off in no time.
“It’s TOO delicious!” she declared (^^)

For myself, I went with the
Daily Lunch Special (Chicken Masala) — 750 yen
It comes with a fresh salad on the side.

It’s hard to convey the scale in photos, so compare it to the fork and glass beside it…
This naan is practically the size of a baby! (LOL)And yes — it’s absolutely delicious! ♪
The fluffy, chewy naan paired with the rich, spice-filled curry is a match made in heaven!

The curry was loaded with generous chunks of tender chicken.
I chose the “hot” level, but even with the heat, you can taste the natural sweetness of the vegetables. Truly outstanding! (^^)

That same evening, here’s a snippet of conversation with my child:
“What do you want for dinner?”
“Curry!!”
“But we just had it for lunch!”
“Then… tomorrow? ♡”
It’s the kind of flavor you’ll want to eat every single day, every single meal! ♪
