About the Bakery

Bracing against the sudden chill,
this is Binako, your SaruKuma writer!

Today I’m introducing a wonderful spot in
Uchinomaki, Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Bakery Genki”.

The yellow noren curtain peeking out from among the trees
immediately catches your eye.

The atmosphere is wonderfully stylish and inviting!

My photo of the parking lot turned out far too blurry to share,
but rest assured there’s a spacious lot right in front of the shop ♪

Inside, the shop is spacious and packed with delicious-looking breads.
I was already buzzing with excitement — where to even begin?

There’s an eat-in space inside,
so you can enjoy your bread fresh on the spot after purchasing.

The trays are clearly separated for takeout and dine-in
customers — a thoughtful touch that makes things easy!

Here’s the drink menu:
Coffee — 300 yen
Café Latte — 350 yen
Caramel Latte — 400 yen
Honey Soda with Fruit Juice — 400 yen
Iced Tea — 300 yen
Muscat Flavor — 350 yen

For little ones, you’ll find:
Apple Juice — 350 yen
Milk — 300 yen
on the menu as well.

Recommended Menu Items

Salt Bread (Shio Pan) — 90 yen
The plump round shape and beautiful golden crust are simply irresistible.

Satsuma Kintoki French Bread — 230 yen
A crusty hearth bread that pairs beautifully with sweet Japanese satsuma sweet potato.

Mini Croissants — 50 yen each
At just 50 yen each, you can grab a bag from the side and pop in as many as you’d like.

Perfect for the season — Japanese Chestnut Bread.
Loaded with whole chestnuts, this is heaven for chestnut lovers!

Dark Cherry Danish — 180 yen
Three-Bean Danish — 180 yen
You can practically hear the flaky crunch of these pastries through the photo.

They also have shokupan (Japanese-style milk bread):
Hotel Shokupan — 2 loaves for 500 yen
Genki Shokupan — 2 loaves for 460 yen
Two loaves for under 500 yen — incredibly reasonable!

This time, I picked up the Choco Cornet — 140 yen.

Anyone else thinking “there it is!”? (laughs)
Yep — the classic chocolate cornet, a beloved Japanese bakery staple.

The chocolate cream is gently sweet with a wonderfully smooth texture,
making it easy to enjoy from start to finish.
The bread itself is soft, and the chocolate fills it all the way to the tip — pure joy!

Next up:
Salt Bread — 90 yen

Of course I had to grab one — I’m a salt bread fanatic!

That signature airy hollow inside, balanced perfectly with the salt — it’s irresistible.

The fluffy bread and just-right saltiness
spread through your mouth, drawing out the deep umami flavor of the dough.

Last but not least: Mini Croissant — 50 yen

Perfect as a breakfast staple to start your day!

The gentle sweetness and crispy, flaky layers are just heavenly.
It’s hard to believe these are only 50 yen — such a generous price!

Buy a few and you’ve got yourself the perfect afternoon snack (*´Д｀)

This bakery also lets you enjoy lunch on the premises,
