This is Binako, your SaruKuma writer — and after writing this title, I’m hoping to overflow with kindness too (just like these tempura packs)!

Today I’m introducing a hidden gem in Shichijo-machi Okada, Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Toride Farm’s Imo-ten” — a sweet potato tempura shop you won’t want to miss!

This tempura stand is located inside the famous Shichijo Melon Dome. I’d been curious about it for ages, and when my craving for imo-ten (sweet potato tempura) hit a peak, I finally made the trip!

Parking is available at the Melon Dome’s lot — super convenient for visitors.

The menu is refreshingly simple:
Imo-ten (sweet potato tempura) / Gobo-ten (burdock root tempura) — 350 yen per pack
Mixed pack — 400 yen

This place is incredibly popular — many customers were buying multiple packs at a time!

This time, I went for the
Mixed pack — 400 yen

And wow — “pack” doesn’t even begin to describe it. It’s PACKED!

Seriously, the sheer volume crammed into one container is almost overwhelming (lol)!

This is way more than “one pack” worth — no wonder everyone was buying several at once!

The moment you lift the lid,
the freed tempura seems to come back to life with a satisfied sigh!

Yep.
These are HUGE!

Not just a generous quantity — each piece is impressively large too!

I mean, come on!
Big AND delicious? That’s almost cheating!

The fluffy, piping-hot Japanese sweet potato wrapped in a perfectly crispy batter is so good it’ll make you swoon!

And that batter — seriously addictive

This is NOT your average gobo-ten (burdock root tempura).

Each piece is about the length of two pinky fingers,
and as thick as an index finger!
And the quantity is just as ridiculous.

I genuinely thought, “There’s no way I can finish all this” — but before I knew it, the pack was empty!

The handmade gobo-ten has a satisfying firmness, super hearty and so good you’ll want more.
