A Sarukuma writer’s firsthand visit to “Odori Sushi Ozu Branch” in Ozu, Kikuchi District. Price guide: from 200 yen. Includes family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.

About the Restaurant

Hello travelers!

I just visited a friend who recently had a baby,
and I was completely knocked out by how adorable newborns are!
This is Binako, your Sarukuma writer!

Today I’m introducing a fantastic spot located in
Ozu, Kikuchi District, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Odori Sushi Ozu Branch”.

I visited at night, so apologies if the exterior looks a bit dim in the photo!

Heads up: lunch and dinner hours get extremely busy,
so I highly recommend arriving a bit earlier than peak times!

The Parking Lot Is Massive
Surprisingly, the parking lot here is HUGE.
Even if you’re driving a larger vehicle, you can park easily without any stress β€” perfect for tourists with rental cars!

Featuring my kid’s mysterious pose

Inside, you’ll find both table seating and counter seats.
The counter is generally faster to be seated at if you’re in a hurry.

They have kids’ chairs available,
plus the kind of seats that attach directly to tables β€”
so visiting with little ones is totally stress-free.

Here’s the fun part:
your sushi is delivered by a mini Shinkansen (bullet train)!

My kid was so thrilled he wouldn’t press the red button to send the train back β€” quintessential Japanese sushi experience right there!

Ordering is done via tablet β€” easy enough for non-Japanese speakers to navigate with the picture menu.

They also feature recommended dishes and seasonal specials.
During my visit, the menu featured fresh autumn seafood β€” a real treat!

Horse Tongue Sushi β€” 200 yen
Horse Shoulder Loin Nigiri β€” 200 yen
Kumamoto is famous for horse meat (basashi), so this is a must-try local specialty β€”
incredibly wallet-friendly for such premium ingredients!

Kids’ Curry Set with a Lottery Ticket β€” 500 yen
A fun option for families with little ones.

Drink Bar β€” 180 yen
Tapioca Drinks β€” 450 yen each
The drink menu is impressively varied too!

Recommended Menu Items

Tuna (Maguro) β€” 100 yen
My kid is obsessed with tuna and just kept ordering it over and over (lol).
Why not branch out a bit, kiddo? But no, just tuna.

The cuts here are nice and thick β€” really satisfying!

Both my kid and I prefer pouring soy sauce directly on the sushi.

Salmon β€” 100 yen

I just talked about my kid, but honestly, whenever I go to a sushi place,
I end up just ordering salmon nonstop too (lol).
It’s so buttery and melts in your mouth β€” absolutely divine.

This is NOT 100-yen quality!

Good to know: wasabi is served separately,
so you can adjust the spice level to your liking β€” great for visitors who prefer milder flavors!

Sake-Steamed Clams (Asari) β€” 150 yen
The clams were calling my name, so I had to order them!

Each clam was generously sized and packed with rich, briny umami flavor β€”
I could’ve eaten these forever and never stopped.

The broth was so good I wanted to drink every last drop!

Takoyaki (Octopus Balls) β€” 100 yen

5 pieces for 100 yen?! Are you kidding me?
I honestly thought they’d be soggy at that price,
but they were perfectly crispy and absolutely delicious!

I take back all my doubts.
Crispy outside, gooey inside β€” the cost performance is unreal!

And honestly, I have to mention
the pickled ginger (gari) is AMAZING!
I’m completely obsessed.

I’d genuinely come back just for the gari alone.
I want to take some home with me!

Affordable, delicious, generous portions β€”
this conveyor belt sushi spot offers truly unbeatable cost performance.

Bonus fact: Odori Sushi is a Kumamoto-based company!
Of course it’s this good β€” local pride at its finest.
I’ll definitely keep coming back.
