πŸ“Œ What You’ll Learn in This Article
A SaruKuma writer’s first-hand visit to “Futatsu Chaya,” a beloved bakery in Shimizu-Honmachi, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City. Price range: from 380 yen. We’ve also rounded up family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.

Hello, fellow travelers!

I’m Binako, a SaruKuma writer who once devoured an entire chocolate bar right before dinner β€” oops!

Today I’m taking you to a hidden gem in Shimizu-Honmachi, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City:
“Futatsu Chaya”.

This shop is famous throughout Kumamoto for its incredible apple pies. Back when I worked at my old company, my colleagues would constantly ask me to pick some up on my way in!
Looking back, I was basically their delivery person β€” but honestly, I didn’t mind one bit! lol

Convenient parking is available right next to the shop β€” perfect if you’re driving around Kumamoto! ^^

What luck! When I walked in, the pies were fresh out of the oven, still piping hot β™ͺ

Here’s a peek at the menu:
Apple Pie β€” 380 yen
Mini Apple Pie β€” 290 yen
Mini Cherry Pie β€” 280 yen
Black Sesame Sweet Bean Pie β€” 180 yen

Pumpkin Pie β€” 190 yen
Amigasa Dango (basket-hat-shaped rice dumplings) β€” 120 yen
Cheese Biscuits β€” 216 yen
There’s quite a variety to choose from β™ͺ
Tip: it’s a good idea to call ahead to check availability β€” that way, your pickup will go smoothly (*Β΄Π”ο½€)

You’ll also find traditional Japanese sweets (wagashi):
Azuma Dango (sweet rice dumplings) β€” 120 yen
Mitarashi Dango (rice dumplings with sweet soy glaze) β€” 110 yen ^^

Rice Crackers (Kome Senbei) β€” 300 yen
Chocolate Cookies β€” 200 yen

And one of my personal favorites:
Amazake Manju (sweet rice wine steamed bun) β€” 129 yen

There’s also a cozy eat-in space at the back of the shop, so you can sit down and enjoy your treats fresh on the spot β™ͺ

Recommended Menu

Since I really wanted to try one fresh from the oven, I went with the
Mini Apple Pie β€” 290 yen
and enjoyed it right there in the eat-in area!

I unwrapped it carefully…

and just stared at those gorgeous, flaky pastry layers!

Then… CHOMP!

OH. MY. GOODNESS.
The crispy, flaky pastry is dusted with sugar on top, giving it the perfect hint of sweetness β€” honestly, the crust alone is so good you could eat it on its own (*Β΄Π”ο½€)

Inside, the warm, gooey apple filling spills out β€” its gentle sweetness pairs beautifully with the buttery crust. Before you know it, you’ve taken another bite… and another… and another! ( *Β΄θ‰Έο½€)

Trust me β€” one bite and you’ll understand why everyone raves about these pies. Truly unforgettable, the kind of treat you’ll be craving long after your trip to Kumamoto ends.

Be sure to swing by Futatsu Chaya on your next visit to Kumamoto β€” you won’t regret it!
