Today, I want to introduce you to a charming spot located in Kengun, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City:
[Cafe’ru – A Toast Specialty Shop].
Cafe’ru is conveniently located very close to Kengun Shrine, making it a perfect stop after exploring this local spiritual landmark.
Good news for drivers – parking is available on site!
Just look for the spaces marked with the Cafe’ru name.

Even before stepping inside, the mouth-watering signage outside will pull you in.
Choosing what to order is a delicious dilemma!
As you walk in, the cash register greets you right at the entrance.
Takeout is also available, and there’s a comfy chair where you can wait for your order to be ready.

As a true toast specialty cafe, the menu offers an impressive variety of options – from savory toasts loaded with toppings to indulgent sweet creations.

Along with cold water, complimentary rusks (crispy toasted bread crackers) were served as a sweet little welcome!
Such a delightful touch!

Recommended Menu

This time, I went with the set menu option:
‘Cafe’ru Lunch Set’ (980 yen + tax)!

You can choose your toast and it comes with a salad, ham, and a drink – what a deal!

This is the Mentai Cheese Toast (spicy cod roe and cheese) – a truly Japanese flavor combination.
And this is the Nostalgic Pizza Toast – a beloved retro Japanese-style pizza on toast.
You can even add extra cheese to the Nostalgic Pizza Toast!
And here’s the American Pizza Toast.

The bread is sourced from ‘Melukoro,’ a renowned bakery in Minami Aso. The result? Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and absolutely delicious! These toasts are perfect as a satisfying meal!

On this particular day, they were running a dream-come-true campaign:
for parties of three or more ordering eligible menu items per person, they offered complimentary French Toast!

Can you believe it?
That’s some serious generosity, lol!!
Just look at that portion!
This is way beyond a typical ‘free side’ size!
It’s piled high!
It wasn’t too sweet either, so dessert stomach activated and we polished it off in no time!

Needless to say, we left absolutely stuffed!
