📌 What You’ll Learn in This Article
A Sarukuma writer visits Waremokou, a charming soba restaurant in Oguni, Kumamoto. We cover family-friendly tips, access information, and opening hours.

Today we’re introducing a wonderful spot called Waremokou!
The Japanese name (吾亦紅) is so unusual that we had to ask the staff how to read it.
This lovely restaurant sits right at the entrance to Oguni’s famous Soba Road (Soba Kaido), making it the perfect first stop on your buckwheat noodle adventure.

The dedicated parking lot just behind the restaurant is fairly spacious, but seating inside is limited.
During tourist season or on weekends, you may need to wait quite a while for a table, so plan accordingly!

Recommended Menu

This time we ordered the signature Waremokou Set, named after the restaurant itself!
You get to choose from several types of soba noodles for your set.
Everything looked delicious, but we played it safe and went with the classic zaru soba (chilled soba with dipping sauce).
The set even comes with a delightful dessert of kuzukiri (kudzu starch noodles) drizzled with kuromitsu (Japanese black sugar syrup)!

Beyond the Waremokou Set, the menu offers plenty of options including limited seasonal specials.
We especially recommend trying the set that includes soba-gayu (rare buckwheat porridge)!
The rich, savory broth has a depth of flavor that’s truly unforgettable — a must-try for adventurous foodies.

Access

Coming from the Aso area, head north on Route 212 and you’ll find the restaurant on your right!
Just look for the sign shown in the image and turn in — you’re there in seconds!

Please note: as of June 1, 2017,

the route turning at this point no longer connects to Soba Road.
Approach from the position shown in the image above for the smoothest access!

Parking is right behind the restaurant.
Keep an eye out for this sign to find your way!
